WORKING UP THE ACADEMY LADDER

Last week boasted another proud moment for FC Malaga City as Torben Francis, who started off the season as a U19 player, earnt his first appearance for our FCMC Senior Team against CD Ciudad de Lucena of the Tercera division.

The talented young striker, who has been a stand out for our Academy so far this season, was thrilled at the news of his call up to the senior team before the turn of the new year - with FCMC currently sitting in playoff contention in Division de Honor. Head Coach Juan Carlos Anon was impressed with Francis's movement and intelligence in the final third and invited the Academy graduate to join FCMC in Almunecar for the remainder of the season after a short trial spell.

It was 75 minutes into the game vs CD Ciudad de Lucena when the 18 year old entered the field making his first appearance for the club at senior level. Francis now joins an elite list of Academy graduates who have made first team appearances, including current senior team players Cameron Williams, Angel Arreola, Jacob Thompson and Neil De Jesus to name just a few.

After the news broke of Torben's debut we caught up with Academy Manager, Sean Morris, who commented on the announcement by saying "We are extremely excited and proud of Torben, to be able to have this opportunity to be the next academy player to make the jump into the top senior team. He has been nothing short of excellent in his time with the academy, and a true pleasure to work with as a coach. Torben represents the values of our club as a player and a person, and we hope this is just the first step in a long and successful senior career"

Torben will no doubt be encouraged by this opportunity and look to push on in the latter parts of the season, with it all to play for moving forward! We caught up with Francis after the game who said "I was buzzing after the game against a strong Tercera side in Lucena, it has made me even hungrier to improve as a player. It’s a real privilege to play for the Senior team and the lads and coaching staff have been brilliant since the day I arrived. They are doing excellent in the league and I hope I can play a significant part in the push for promotion."

Another proud day for FC Malaga City and we're excited to see what the future holds for our talented Academy players!
