FC MALAGA CITY: Pathways to Senior Football

Here at FC Malaga City we pride ourselves on being able to offer our players concrete pathways into full time senior football. Throughout the Academy’s illustrious history we have seen numerous players progress into the senior ranks of the club both on the FC Malaga City Senior and CD Almunecar City Senior sides.

Our FC Malaga City success stories have been well documented, with the now household names of Angel Arreola, Neil DeJesus and Cameron Williams walking the path from u19 players all the way into the full FC Malaga City senior first team, now competing in Tercera Division. It is perhaps lesser known, however, just how many players have come through the academy ranks to compete for our CD Almunecar Senior side competing this season in Division de Honor.

Here at the club, amongst our proudest achievements is being able to watch a player truly develop from an Academy player into a full time senior player. Despite our success in progressing through the Spanish league system, our club philosophy has never strayed from providing talented youth players with an opportunity to showcase themselves in a senior environment. To see players graduating from our Academy teams and into our Senior teams each year is something that will never grow old and is a testimony to the hard work and dedication of both the player and coaching staff alike.

This season, notable CDAC Senior players Callum Haspell, Colby Williams, Calvin Ransbury, Ewan Sanchez, Alessandro Briggs, and William Walters are just a few of the players that have climbed the academy ladder and are now competing at an elite-senior level.

In having the opportunity to speak to Callum Haspell regarding his progression in the club, the CDAC center back had this to say, “Coming into the academy during the 2022/21 season starting with the U18’s I had a long way to go to earn my place and be asked to play with the senior team. Unbeknownst to me at the time, the coaching staff and pathways within the club were already in place to actively promote the youth through the club ranks.”

Haspell continued, “Opportunities to play full time high level football can be difficult to come across for young players not coming from top academies so FC Malaga City and CD Almunecar City have given me a great opportunity to develop and progress from academy level into full time mens football.”

This season alone, a total of 15 players have progressed through our development structure into senior football, a number which far surpasses even the most ambitious of football sides. As the years progress we hope to see this number continue to rise and we want you to be a part of it!
