FC Malaga City Academy have taken the decision to postpone the beginning of the 2020/21 season until 1st September 2020.
The decision has been taken in accordance with guidance from the government and football federation to ensure the safety of all players and staff.
The postponement ensures the immediate safety of all stakeholders of the academy, and also allows an extended period for travel restrictions to be lifted and for VISAs to be processed for players from non-EU countries.
The Academy’s Sports Scientist, Ryan Bowen, will provide all players with a six to eight week gym programme to build players back into the new season dependent on when gym facilities are available for public use.
George Jermy, Academy Director, commented: “The safety of our players and staff is always paramount to our operations.
We acknowledge that parents may be reluctant to send their children to the academy following the global severity of the situation, but we would like to ensure everybody that a ball will not be kicked before the situation is deemed safe by the Government and World Health Bodies.”
